It doesn't get ANY better than the 7D. Review by jbrecording
From my first experience back in 2009 at Unique Photo, I was sold the moment I walked in. I knew right away that was my new home for buying anything for my camera rig, great or small. It really doesn't get any better, since the selection and prices rival what you'd find in the city. What you won't find, however, is the inflated taxes, pushy salespeople, and inconvenient commute across the river! My first experience was purchasing an upgrade to an Olympus E-500 that I'd had on a shelf for many years; I wanted to get back into photography and needed some guidance with where to go. I strolled into Unique, and met Michael Downey who showed me a Canon Rebel XSi, and a Nikon D3000. We had a great chat about the benefits/features of each, but rather than push one product over the other he told me the most important facet of buying cameras: "It's not about the camera, but the one behind the lens." (The words may not be 100% exact, but that was the jist of it.) Rather than push a product on me, which is what the little shop in Parsippany did when I bought the Olympus a few years ago, he made it about me instead of the product. THAT, is true customer service. He sold me something that would meet MY needs. I walked out that day having purchased the Rebel XSi, and some other goodies to get myself started.
Since that time, I'd purchased a 50D and a few more lenses and accessories. Michael and I had talked about the 7D being an ideal fit for my needs, and an ultimate goal of ownership that I'm now proud to say that I've achieved. This camera is truly amazing. The first thing I noticed when I picked it up, even just the body by itself sans lens, the BUILD QUALITY is phenomenal!! It feels like you're picking up a tank, without all the extra bulk and weight. It's sturdy and solid. It feels great to hold, and even BETTER with a lens. I'm using a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 which I was starting to lose my interest in until I mounted it on the 7D. WOW. Focusing is crisp, images are sharp, and the camera is FAST! Even at slower shutter speeds I was able to keep the shutter down for all kinds of rapid fire goodness.
I've only had the 7D a few days, but I am definitely a huge fan. If a full-frame camera isn't a huge priority, this body is a must. It's quick, sharp, full-featured, built-like-a-tank, and priced well. It's a bit high, but that's not Unique's fault.
In this "you get what you pay for" world, this camera is well worth every penny.
Super huge thanks to Michael Downey and the folks down at Unique; you've earned a well-satisfied and enthused customer FOR LIFE.
